UNI and ANS plan to continue to host the supply chain special sessions and workshops during ANS national meetings to continue the work of identifying industry challenges and update the Supply Chain Strategic and Tactical Working Plan.

UNI Executive Director, Greg Gibson, will chair the first special session in Minneapolis.  He said, "UNI is pleased to work with the American Nuclear Society to host these sessions and develop the business infrastructure, policies, and programs needed to make America compete effectively in the international nuclear market.  The U.S. must take their seat at the head of the table where billions of dollars is at stake, representing thousands of well-paying jobs for U.S. workers and suppliers.”

Be sure to attend the first ANS-UNI joint working session that will discuss the need for U.S. suppliers to be more competitive, and outright successful, as the nuclear industry transitions into the next decade of new nuclear projects.

The event will be held during the ANS Annual Meeting, June 9-13. Register today.

Supply Chain Special Session: The Next Generation Of Supply Chain Innovation–A New Business Road Map for the Supply Chain, Domestic and International
Tuesday, June 11:

Part I – Panel Discussion, 1:30-3:40 pm CT

Part II – Workshop, 3:55-5:30 pm CT

A modern business road map must be integrated into the “Next-Generation U.S. Supply Chain Process” for it to be successful. This is imperative domestically with Utilities/Operators and emerging reactor technologies, and internationally as they compete to provide goods and services to global nuclear projects.

Engaged industry executives will share their perspectives on what is needed to improve collaboration and integration between Suppliers and Utilities/Operators.

Special focus will be dedicated to attendee and panelist interaction with a workshop to identify issues needing attention along with developing corresponding actions for a 2019-2020 Supply Chain Strategic and Tactical Working Plan.

Panel Topics:

UNI: Who Are We, How Are We Different, and What’s Our End Objective and Plans to Improve U.S. Supplier Business Domestically and Internationally

International U.S. Supply Chain Challenges – First Hand Experience

U.S. Supply Chain Enhancement for Domestic and International Opportunities

How Can We Create A “Team USA” Supply Chain to Compete Internationally

Supply Chain Working Group Meeting April 25

Tuesday, 08 January 2019 by admin

Mr. Eggett opened the meeting with a review of the Agenda and provided a brief summary on the key points from the February 26, 2019 meeting.

Mr. Greg Gibson, UNI’s Executive Director, reported that Mr. Vince Gilbert had formally retired. Mr. Gibson stated that Vince’s proposed surprise retirement party has been re-scheduled for June 11th during the UNI Special Session & Workshop, “The Next Generation of Supply Chain Innovation–A New Business Road Map for the Supply Chain, Domestic and International” at the upcoming American Nuclear Society (ANS) Annual Meeting in Minneapolis.

Mr. Gibson then announced that Mr. Don Eggett had been appointed to the position of UNI’s Director, Supply Chain, replacing Mr. Gilbert. Mr. Gilbert has been invited to continue, as his retirement permits, to participate in future UNI activities as an ad-hoc Director, Emeritus.

Detailed discussions entailed, with Don Eggett spending the necessary time reviewing and highlighting the February 26th meeting minutes to ensure key issues and summaries were understood by meeting participants and given their necessary prioritization:

• Near Term – LWR Fleet Sustainment and Decommissioning

• Medium Term – SMRs

• Longer Term – Advanced Reactors

Current LWR Fleet Operations sustainment is a high priority.

The four major gaps from the first SCWG meeting were identified and discussed at this meeting:

Gap 1: High Risk in Losing Supplier Safety Related Capabilities

Gap 2: International Nuclear Standards Harmonization

Gap 3: Proactive means to achieve a defined US supplier content in International Nuclear Projects

Gap 4: Development of sufficient human resources, tools and methods to support
increasing number of transitions from nuclear plant operations to nuclear plant decommissioning modes

Gap 5: Proposal for New Nuclear Technologies Waiting to be Commercialized

To become a UNI Member and participate on our Supply Chain Working Group, contact Mr. Don Eggett, Director, Supply Chain.
